About
Alpha Warmblood Stud
Farm Lichtenstein is situated 30 km southwest of Windhoek in the Khomas Hochland at a height of about 2000 m in central Namibia. Here the Rusch family already bred and trained horses for the german Schutztruppe in the early years of the 20th century.
Horses always have been an integral part of the farm life even such that the family was involved in importing stallions from Germany.
Familiarity with applied animal breeding through our cattle studs and scientific studies in genetics have given me the confidence to start my own formal horse stud. My passion for horses and riding, particularly dressage is the driving force for Alpha Warmblood Stud. As the first officially registered inseminator for horses I am now allowed to offer my skill to other stud breeders.
In order to breed high quality sport horses, mares from established Namibian bloodlines are bred to proven german and local sires. Here you will find horses with movements that can be turned into dancing in the dressage arena and horses with jumping ability and courage to take their rider through parcours. Foals are handled from an early age and trained appropriate to their age. They are raised under natural conditions in the mountains and fed at critical times to ensure that they develop into hardy and healthy athletes.
